About the event

October 3rd might be the most important date in the history of Leiden. The city was relieved by the Beggars (Geuzen) after a siege of a year. But how did it come to this? Who were historical heroes such as Jan van Hout and Magdalena Moons? And how did the siege effect the lives of ordinary citizens like Frans de Backer and Neeltgen Lourisdochter? Is it possible to divide history in good and bad? Our storyteller takes you along historical sites like the Pieterskerk during an outburst of iconoclasm, or the blue stone in the pavement were a gallow was raised. Hear the town crier announce from his stage at city hall. Listen to the story of the relieving ships entering the city, while you stand at the very site it happened.
